When Noah Wall was born in the United Kingdom in 2012, his parents were told to prepare for an extraordinarily difficult future. Doctors had diagnosed him before birth with spina bifida and severe hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess fluid builds up around the brain and can place enormous pressure on brain tissue.

At the time, specialists believed Noah’s chances of surviving—and developing normally—were extremely limited. His parents were reportedly advised on several occasions to terminate the pregnancy, but they chose to continue believing in their son.

After Noah was born, surgeons closed the opening caused by spina bifida and inserted a shunt to drain the excess fluid from his head. His early medical journey was incredibly challenging, but Noah gradually began surprising the people caring for him.
