On the afternoon of August 1, 2026, a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, became the site of a devastating act of violence that left three people ᴅᴇᴀᴅ and seven others injured.

The restaurant had opened just days earlier, on July 24, as part of the company’s expansion into Idaho. It was busy with customers when 24-year-old Chad Williams allegedly opened fire shortly after 2 p.m. The incident began inside the restaurant before continuing into the parking lot and eventually ended with the suspect’s death from a self-inflicted injury. 💔

Among those who lost their lives was 23-year-old Ashley Garibay of Stockton, California. Ashley worked for In-N-Out and had traveled to Twin Falls to help train employees at the newly opened location.

For Ashley, the company represented much more than a job. In-N-Out had been her first place of employment, and she quickly became pᴀssionate about her work. She frequently traveled to ᴀssist with new store openings and dreamed of eventually becoming a store manager. 🍔❤️

Her family remembered Ashley as kind, adventurous, outgoing, intelligent, and determined. They described her radiant smile and contagious laughter as qualities that could brighten any room.

She was also someone who regularly put other people first, offering support to those going through difficult times even while facing challenges of her own.

Her loved ones expressed graтιтude to Ashley’s coworkers, first responders, and bystanders who tried to comfort her during the final moments of her life. 🕊️

In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder also expressed sorrow over Ashley’s loss, remembering her as a valued ᴀssociate who was caring for customers when the tragedy unfolded.

A fundraiser organized by Ashley’s family to help cover funeral expenses received an outpouring of support from people who wanted to honor her memory. 💐

The other victims were 59-year-old Christopher “Toph” Claunch of Hagerman, Idaho, and 66-year-old Dale Schultz of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Claunch, who was originally from California, had lived in Idaho for approximately three decades. After struggling with alcoholism for years, he achieved two years of sobriety and later dedicated himself to helping others through recovery.

He worked at Renaissance Ranch Recovery Center in Rupert, where he had once received treatment himself. Friends and relatives said helping others find a path toward recovery became one of the most meaningful parts of his life.

They remembered him for his carefree personality, sense of humor, and ability to connect with people who were seeking help. ❤️‍🩹

Dale Schultz and his wife, Reinette, were traveling home after attending a family reunion when they stopped near the restaurant to charge their Tesla.

Dale was killed in the attack, while Reinette suffered serious injuries and required multiple surgeries. She now faces a long recovery while also grieving the loss of her husband. 💔

Dale was remembered as a talented artist, an Air Force veteran, an enthusiastic pickleball player, and a humble man who was deeply appreciated by friends, neighbors, and members of his Utah community and church.

Seven other people were injured during the attack. In the immediate aftermath, two were treated and released, three were reported to be in stable condition, while two remained in critical condition.

Among those critically injured was Austin “AJ” Scott James, a former law enforcement officer with connections to the Sacramento area who had relocated to Idaho.

James reportedly confronted the shooter and was injured during the attempt. His wife, an emergency-room nurse, and another nurse who happened to be nearby immediately provided ᴀssistance. 🩺❤️‍🩹

Another armed civilian, Jordan Salinas of nearby Kimberly, also intervened. Authorities credited the actions of armed bystanders and an off-duty Idaho state trooper with helping drive the attacker away from the restaurant and potentially preventing additional casualties.

Investigators identified the suspect as 24-year-old Chad Williams and said they believed he acted alone. A clear motive had not been publicly established in the days following the attack.

Williams had previously lived in the Waddell area of Arizona and attended the College of Southern Idaho between 2022 and 2023, where he studied nursing and briefly served as a student senator before later leaving the college without completing a degree.

Authorities said his family was cooperating with the investigation as detectives continued working to understand what led to the attack.

In the aftermath, the Twin Falls community rallied around the victims and their families. Support services were established, vigils were planned, and people gathered to remember those whose lives were suddenly taken away. 🕯️🙏
