Rory Feek Shares Candid Update After Daughter Indiana, 12, Underwent Open-Heart Surgery

The country singer said Indiana received “literally hundreds and hundreds of letters and cards from everywhere you can imagine” after her procedure

Rory Feek shared an update on his young daughter following her recent health ordeal.

In a post shared on his Substack on Friday, July 3, the country singer, 61, said his daughter Indiana, 12, who recently underwent open-heart surgery, was discharged from the hospital and cleared to return home.

“Just as we had hoped, we were released from the hospital on Monday morning. A moment that all of us had been looking … forward to,” he wrote in his post. “Dr. Fraser and his team said that Indy is doing amazing and gave her a big thumbs up, and told us we were free to head north to Waco. Back home.”

Amid her hospitalization, Feek said his daughter received letters and cards from people all over the country, sending her well wishes and expressing hopes for a speedy recovery. The Gentle Man artist added that Indiana was “more than a little overwhelmed” by all of the love and support she received.

“There are literally hundreds and hundreds of letters and cards from everywhere you can imagine,” he said. “Big cities and little towns. From old folks and little kids, all letting her know that they’ve been praying for her, and for us. And hoping that she would get well soon.”

“Now and then she would open one from someone she knew, which was fun, but mostly they’re from complete strangers,” Feek continued, adding that he and his daughter spent most of the afternoon reading some of the letters. “People who don’t know her, or us, but who care enough to have taken the time to buy a card and sit down and write something and mail it out. Love truly is an amazing thing.”

“It’s been a long week and a half since we loaded up and headed to Austin, with more than a few worries and fears in tow. But the reality is, it’s not been near as long, or hard, as it could’ve been,” he wrote. “And we’re SO thankful.”

“Thankful to be home. Thankful to have the surgery behind us. And especially thankful that she’s recovered so quickly and so well,” the star continued. “And we’re thankful for all the love and prayers we’ve received from everyone.”

Feek concluded his post by saying that he hoped it would be the last time he had to write an update about his daughter’s heart journey.

“This is, God-willing, the last post and story I’m going to share about Indy’s heart journey,” he said. “The full recovery time, they say, will take about six weeks. And while that’s happening here at home, there are lots of other stories that I want to share and adventures that God is going to take us on. See you then.”

The singer welcomed daughter Indiana with late wife Joey Feek, who died of cancer in March 2016 at age 40. He is also a dad to daughters Heidi and Hopie from his first marriage to Tamara Gilmer.

The couple, who performed together as the Grammy-winning country duo Joey+Rory, were married for nearly 14 years. In July 2024, Feek remarried Indiana’s teacher, Rebecca.
