A tense moment unfolded during Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial after her defense attorney claimed a prosecutor was caught on a courtroom microphone saying “shut her up” as Clancy became visibly emotional during testimony about her youngest child’s autopsy.

Clancy’s attorney, Reddington, raised the issue in court on Friday, August 7, telling Judge William Sullivan that the comment had reportedly been heard on a “H๏τ mic” the previous day.

“This is not like ‘Handmaid’s Tale.’ You can’t tape her mouth shut,” Reddington told the judge as the court prepared to resume testimony.

Prosecutors disputed the interpretation of the comment. According to the prosecution, the attorney was actually saying “shut it off,” referring to the autopsy pH๏τographs being displayed in the courtroom rather than telling anyone to silence Clancy.

The judge appeared to address the situation before the Friday lunch break, warning that inappropriate or disruptive comments would not be tolerated inside the courtroom.

“If anybody is found to make those comments, they will be immediately escorted out and barred,” Judge Sullivan warned, emphasizing that microphones throughout the courtroom could capture conversations.

The dispute came just one day after an intensely emotional moment during the trial.

On Thursday, August 6, Clancy could be heard sobbing as Mᴀssachusetts state medical examiner Kimberley Springer testified about pH๏τographs connected to the autopsy of Clancy’s youngest child, 8-month-old Callan. The emotional testimony became so difficult that Clancy was taken from the courtroom during a recess. 💔

Clancy is on trial in connection with the deaths of her three children — Callan, Dawson, 3, and Cora, 5 — who died at the family’s Duxbury, Mᴀssachusetts, home in January 2023.

Prosecutors allege that Clancy caused the children’s deaths using exercise bands. She has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

Her defense argues that she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis and the effects of psychiatric medications at the time, leaving her unable to understand the nature or wrongfulness of her actions.

The prosecution, however, continues to argue that Clancy should be held criminally responsible, making her mental state at the time of the incident one of the central issues before the jury.

As testimony continues, the courtroom has heard increasingly detailed evidence concerning Clancy’s mental health, medical treatment, and the events surrounding the children’s deaths.
