Born Different, But Never Defined by It: Harrison’s Emotional Journey With Scoliosis and Phocomelia

For much of his life, Harrison has faced challenges that most children never have to experience. Living with both scoliosis, a condition that causes curvature of the spine, and phocomelia, a rare limb difference, he has undergone frequent medical appointments and monitoring to help doctors track his health and development.
Among the most difficult parts of his ongoing care have been the regular X-ray examinations needed to monitor the progression of his scoliosis. These procedures often required Harrison to lie flat for extended periods, a process that could be physically uncomfortable and emotionally stressful.
