Before He Could Even Be a Baby, He Was Already Fighting for His Life

Sage entered the world with hope surrounding his birth — but that hope was quickly replaced by urgency and fear. From the very first moments of life, something was wrong. He struggled to breathe, and doctors immediately realized his heart was not functioning properly.

Within days, he underwent his first open-heart surgery. It was supposed to give him a chance at life, but the situation grew worse instead of better.

Barely a week after being born, Sage’s condition took a critical turn. A blocked artery and a dangerous clot inside his heart left doctors with no time to wait. The decision was immediate and terrifying — he was rushed into a second open-heart surgery, less than two hours after the emergency was declared. The medical team fought desperately to stabilize his fragile body.

But his battle didn’t end there.

Soon after, another organ began to fail. His kidneys shut down, forcing him onto dialysis. Machines took over what his tiny body could not do on its own. Tubes surrounded him, monitors beeped constantly, and every day became a fight just to keep him alive. This continued for more than 30 days.

Through it all, Sage endured. Against overwhelming odds, he survived moments that many believed he would not. And in between the pain and the procedures, there were fleeting moments that amazed everyone — he smiled. A small, fragile smile that carried more strength than anyone could explain.

Eventually, he was able to go home, but his journey is far from over. The challenges that once began in the hospital continue to follow him, reminding his family that every day is still precious.

Sage’s story raises a haunting question that lingers in every heart that hears it: how many times can a heart be pushed to the edge… and still choose to keep beating? 💔
