After years of hoping to become parents, Jessica Egan and her husband were overjoyed to learn they were expecting their first child following fertility treatment. But at just 11 weeks into the pregnancy, their excitement turned to heartbreak when doctors told them their unborn daughter was likely to have Down syndrome.

The news was overwhelming.

Jessica remembers spending several days in tears as she tried to process what the diagnosis could mean for her baby’s future. Instead of allowing fear to guide their decisions, however, she and her husband chose to learn everything they could about the condition.

They joined a local Down syndrome support group, spoke with other families, and discovered that their daughter’s diagnosis did not define the life she could live.

Months later, Jessica finally held her baby girl in her arms.

Looking at her newborn daughter, she knew she had made the right decision.

“So what if she has an extra chromosome?” Jessica said. “She deserves to be here and enjoy this beautiful life just like any other child.”

As her daughter has grown, Jessica says she continues to reach milestones in her own unique way. Like every child, she develops at her own pace, filling her family’s life with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
