When Grace was born, her parents never imagined that one of the most unforgettable moments of her life would be hearing their voices for the very first time.

Soon after birth, Grace did not pᴀss her newborn hearing screening. Further tests revealed that she had severe to profound hearing loss in both ears, leaving her family determined to find the best treatment to help her experience the world of sound.

Working alongside a dedicated team of specialists, including audiologists, speech therapists, and ENT experts, Grace’s parents explored every available option. She first wore hearing aids, but they provided only limited benefit.

After careful evaluations, doctors recommended bilateral cochlear implants. At just nine months old, Grace underwent the life-changing procedure, becoming one of the youngest children to receive cochlear implants through Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s ENT program in Toledo.

Now, her family is eagerly awaiting one extraordinary milestone—Activation Day.

A few weeks after surgery, cochlear implant recipients return to have their devices switched on and carefully programmed for the first time. For many families, it’s an unforgettable moment as their child begins hearing the voices of loved ones who have been by their side since birth.
