Eleanor was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as Brittle Bone Disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes bones to fracture easily. Her diagnosis changed her family’s lives from the moment she entered the world.

Before she was even discharged from the hospital, Eleanor had already suffered seven fractures, including two broken legs, a broken arm, multiple fractured ribs, and a skull fracture. Instead of spending her first days at home, she remained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 67 days, where specialists carefully monitored every aspect of her condition.

For her parents, Tasha and Stewart Butler, those early weeks were filled with fear, uncertainty, and countless difficult moments. As Eleanor grew, everyday activities that most families take for granted carried significant risks. Rolling over, sitting up, or even sleeping could result in painful fractures.

Over time, Eleanor experienced additional injuries affecting her ribs, jaw, and arms. Her mother recalls learning to recognize the cries that signaled another fracture, including one heartbreaking night when Eleanor broke a rib while asleep without any apparent accident.

Despite these challenges, Eleanor’s joyful personality never disappeared. Family and friends began affectionately calling her “Tiny But Mighty,” a nickname that perfectly reflects her extraordinary courage.

More recently, doctors diagnosed Eleanor with cervical kyphosis, a serious spinal condition affecting the alignment of her neck. Specialists determined that corrective surgery offered the best opportunity to improve her long-term health despite the significant risks involved.

Before the procedure, Eleanor underwent halo traction at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta to gradually improve spinal alignment and prepare for surgery. Following months of consultations, prayers, and careful planning, surgeons successfully completed the delicate operation.
