Missouri Anesthesiologist Faces Renewed Scrutiny After Wife Found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Months Following ᴀssault Conviction
The death of 36-year-old Allie Hummel has renewed public attention on a Missouri domestic violence case involving her husband, anesthesiologist Dr. Andrew Michael Hummel, who pleaded guilty to ᴀssault-related charges earlier this year. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into Allie’s death remains ongoing, and no official cause or manner of death has been announced.
The case first came to light on July 24, 2025, when police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a H๏τel. According to investigators, officers found signs of a violent confrontation inside the room, including blood on a bed and a cut on Dr. Hummel’s hand. Allie Hummel was later located in the women’s restroom of the H๏τel lobby.
Police reports state that Allie told officers she had been arguing with her husband when the confrontation turned physical. She alleged that he struck her and strangled her multiple times until she was unable to breathe. A guest staying in a neighboring H๏τel room also reported hearing a woman repeatedly scream, “Get off me,” during the incident.
Dr. Hummel was initially charged with second-degree domestic ᴀssault for the alleged strangulation and third-degree domestic ᴀssault for allegedly striking his wife. Following his arrest, he was released on bond and ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring device while awaiting court proceedings.
After initially pleading not guilty, the case concluded on March 12, 2026, when Dr. Hummel pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree ᴀssault. The court sentenced him to one year in jail on each count, but the sentences were suspended. Instead, he received two years of supervised probation.
As part of his probation, Dr. Hummel was ordered to remain sober, complete alcohol and drug evaluations, undergo psychological and domestic violence ᴀssessments, participate in a batterer intervention program, and attend a domestic violence victim impact panel.
The case also drew significant attention because of Dr. Hummel’s position as a practicing anesthesiologist. Following the incident, Hannibal Regional Hospital revoked his clinical privileges. However, his Missouri medical license remained active, allowing him to continue practicing elsewhere if eligible.
Now, less than four months after the criminal case was resolved, Allie Hummel has been found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Officials have not publicly disclosed the circumstances surrounding her death, and investigators have emphasized that the inquiry remains active.
Because the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not announced whether her death is connected to the earlier domestic violence case. Until forensic findings and investigative results are completed, officials have urged the public to avoid speculation.
As investigators continue working to determine what happened, Allie Hummel’s death has reignited conversations about domestic violence, victim safety, and the importance of thoroughly investigating cases involving allegations of strangulation and repeated abuse.
