Three Lives Remembered as Florida Investigation Concludes

A South Florida community is mourning the loss of real estate professional Melanie Hyer and her two young daughters after investigators concluded that their deaths resulted from a murder-suicide involving the children’s father.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, along with her daughters, 11-year-old Savannah and 8-year-old Sienna, were found deceased inside Hyer’s home in a gated community in Doral after deputies responded to a welfare check on Tuesday evening.
Following their investigation, authorities said Ryan Charles Whiten, 42, was responsible for the deaths before taking his own life.

Officials stated that all four died from stab wounds. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional information regarding a possible motive or how long the family had been inside the home before they were discovered.
The heartbreaking case has left relatives, friends, neighbors, and the broader Doral community struggling to process an unimaginable loss.
Melanie was widely known throughout South Florida as a respected real estate professional specializing in probate, luxury waterfront, and commercial properties. Throughout her career, she built a reputation for helping families through significant life transitions and was recognized as an experienced voice within the real estate industry.

Outside of her profession, those who knew Melanie remember her first and foremost as a devoted mother.
Doral Mayor Christi Fraga described her as “a light of sunshine,” recalling her active involvement at her daughters’ school and her willingness to support the community whenever she could.
Savannah and Sienna were students at Downtown Doral Elementary School and members of the Doral Field Hockey team. Friends, classmates, coaches, and teachers have shared messages remembering both girls for their kindness, joyful personalities, and the friendships they built with those around them.
The team described the sisters as valued members of their community whose positive spirit touched many lives.
According to public records, Melanie and Ryan Whiten had separated several years earlier and had been co-parenting their daughters. Their divorce was finalized earlier this year.
Authorities have not publicly identified what led to the events inside the home, and investigators continue reviewing all available evidence.
As news of the tragedy spread, members of the community gathered to support one another while offering condolences to everyone affected.
A Catholic memorial Mᴀss has been organized in honor of Melanie, Savannah, and Sienna, giving friends, neighbors, and loved ones an opportunity to celebrate their lives and remember the love they shared with those around them.
Beyond the investigation, many people have reflected on the lasting impact left by three lives that meant so much to their family and community.
Melanie is remembered as a caring mother, a dedicated professional, and someone who was always willing to help others.
Savannah and Sienna are remembered as two bright young girls whose curiosity, kindness, and enthusiasm brought happiness to classmates, teammates, and everyone fortunate enough to know them.
Their pᴀssing has also renewed conversations about the lasting effects of family violence and the importance of recognizing and responding to situations that may place loved ones at risk.
While investigators continue their work, the focus for many remains on honoring the memories of Melanie, Savannah, and Sienna rather than the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
May they be remembered for the lives they lived, the love they shared, and the lasting impact they made on everyone around them.
May Melanie Hyer, Savannah, and Sienna rest in peace. 🕊️
