Investigation Continues Following the Tragic Death of 21-Month-Old Gloria Elikana in Springfield

💔🕊️ The Springfield, Mᴀssachusetts, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-month-old Gloria Elikana, who died after being struck by an Amtrak train on Wednesday evening.
The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. near Emily Street, after emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting that a young child had been struck along the railroad tracks. First responders arrived quickly and found Gloria critically injured.

According to preliminary reports, the Amtrak conductor flagged down a pᴀssing motorist to urgently request help, allowing emergency crews to reach the scene as quickly as possible. Gloria was transported to Baystate Medical Center, but despite extensive lifesaving efforts, she did not survive.
Investigators are now working to determine how the toddler came to be on or near the tracks before the collision. Authorities spent several hours processing the scene and are awaiting video footage from Amtrak, which may help establish a clearer timeline of events.
