Following his conviction in the case involving the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony has begun serving his prison sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system, according to official reporting.

Authorities confirmed that Anthony was transferred into state custody shortly after sentencing and is currently held at a correctional facility within Texas. His movement into the state system marks the formal start of his custodial sentence.

Shortly after his transfer, court records show that Anthony filed a notice of appeal with a Texas appellate court. In the filing, he requested the appointment of legal counsel, stating that he lacks the financial means to retain private representation.
