A Texas family is celebrating a long-awaited milestone after five-year-old Khaleesi, a San Antonio girl who has spent months waiting for a life-saving heart transplant, was taken into surgery after doctors identified a donor heart.

For more than eight months, Khaleesi and her family have lived inside a world of uncertainty, hoping each day would bring the call that could change her future. According to her loved ones, that moment finally arrived after approximately 250 days on the transplant waiting list.

Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, Khaleesi has faced medical challenges since birth. Over the years, she has undergone multiple open-heart surgeries and endured numerous complications that tested both her strength and that of her family.

Her journey has included treatment with ECMO, a Fontan takedown procedure, and months relying on a Berlin Heart ventricular ᴀssist device while waiting for a suitable donor organ. Most recently, her family shared concerns after a frightening medical emergency that doctors reportedly treated as a possible stroke when she suddenly lost movement on one side of her body.

Just days before receiving transplant news, loved ones were asking supporters to pray for her condition. Now, surgeons are working to give the young girl a new chance at life through a heart transplant procedure.

In an update shared shortly after surgery began, her family reported that Khaleesi was placed under anesthesia without complications and that the operation was underway.
