Lynette Hooker: Michigan Woman Vanishes from Bahamas Dinghy – Husband’s GPS-Contradicted Story Sparks New Coast Guard Dive Search

On the night of April 4, 2026, 55-year-old Lynette Hooker of Onsted, Michigan, disappeared while returning to the couple’s sailboat Soulmate in the Abacos. Her husband, Brian Hooker, told authorities she fell from their small dinghy during rough weather en route from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. He claimed strong currents swept her away after she lost the engine key, and he paddled alone for hours before reaching shore exhausted around 4 a.m.

The story quickly unraveled. Newly obtained GPS data from devices linked to Brian Hooker show movements that contradict his account: the vessel stopped in the Sea of Abaco for an extended period before he continued toward shore. The boat’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) also went dark for more than 11 hours that night.

Bahamian police arrested Brian on April 8 but released him days later without charges; he remains a suspect and has denied any wrongdoing. The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service seized the Soulmate off the coast of Melbourne, Florida, in mid-May as part of an active criminal investigation. Investigators are now seeking permission from the Bahamas to conduct a new dive search in previously unexamined areas of the Sea of Abaco.

Lynette’s Apple Watch and other personal items have added further questions, and the Coast Guard has publicly appealed for information about a sailboat seen moored near the Soulmate. As of early June 2026, no body has been recovered and the investigation continues.

The case has drawn intense scrutiny because of the digital contradictions and the couple’s life as full-time cruisers. Whether Lynette was the victim of a tragic accident or something far darker, the GPS evidence has forced authorities to look again at the dark waters where she vanished.
