Packers’ Xavier McKinney shades ‘gossiping’ podcast chatter in cryptic post

Did Xavier McKinney call out one of his ex-Giants teammates?

McKinney, now with the Packers, shared a cryptic message on his Instagram story Friday night.

“To think he ever thought he was better than me and for them to try to push that … lol,” McKinney wrote. “Oh and somebody tell buddy to hop hop [sic] off the melo podcast gossiping and lock back in on his craft.

“Yeah it’s always smoke … remember that ! Write it down take a picture IDGAF !”

Around the same time, McKinney posted on X as well.

“We are not the same,” McKinney wrote.

McKinney did not reveal who he was talking about.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Giants and emerged as one of the best safeties in the NFL before leaving in free agency this past offseason and signing a four-year, $67 million contract with the Packers.

And McKinney thrived in Green Bay and was named to the All-Pro First Team.

He also recorded eight interceptions — second most in the league.

McKinney and the Packers are set to face the Eagles in the wild-card round, while the Giants finished the season with a disastrous 3-14 record.

Giants outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was teammates with McKinney for two years, did notably make an appearance on Carmelo Anthony’s “7 PM in Brooklyn” podcast on the show’s Jan. 25, 2024 episode — nearly a full year ago.

On the episode, though, Thibodeaux did compare his role as a pᴀss-rusher to that of a safety.

“I got the hardest and easiest position in the NFL,” Thibodeaux said. “It’s the hardest because, when you talk about size, strength, force output, when you talk about the physics of it, offensive linemen is the most dangerous. Other than like a safety coming down full speed, it’s offensive linemen. To physically punch them or press them every play — I’m 250 [pounds]. The average O-lineman is 320 [pounds]. You talk about the mindset that I have to have or like a Lawrence Taylor or all these guys that are relentless on defense.”

Thibodeaux brought up the safety position on another occasion on the episode.

“Would I want to play offense? No I wouldn’t wanna play offense,” Thibodeaux said. “What people miss [about] D-Lineman, people always think D-linemen are the dumbest guys. We have the lowest impact. Even though we’re impacting the same amount, I’m going two steps versus these safeties, these linebackers. Like a guy like Ray Lewis? I don’t know how he played the way he played as long as he played. God is good.”

Those comments seemingly were praise for the safety position rather than criticize it, however.
