Doctors once told Tony and Brianna Rico that their newborn daughter might have only hours to live. Nearly six weeks later, little Iris is still here — and her parents are praying for a miracle. 🙏

When Iris Rico was born in Wetumpka, Alabama, her parents were given devastating news.

Iris had been born with Trisomy 18, a serious genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 18.

The condition can lead to significant medical challenges, including heart defects and developmental complications.

“We’re praying every hour of every day that Iris survives,” Brianna said.

This morning, the Rico family was in Birmingham for the third time as doctors continued evaluating Iris and working to understand how best to support her.

Recently, Iris has struggled with feeding, and doctors are treating her for infections.

Her medical team is also monitoring her heart and lungs.

Tony and Brianna are meeting with specialists, including a cardiologist and pulmonologist, as they continue searching for answers and ways to help their daughter.

For her parents, every appointment carries enormous weight.

They are not simply looking at test results.

They are looking for another reason to hope.

Another way to help Iris.
