🥎🏐❤️ AT JUST 5 YEARS OLD, KAESYN HAS ONE BIG DREAM — BUT FIRST, SHE MUST TRAVEL THOUSANDS OF MILES FOR HELP

For 5-year-old Kaesyn Nichols of Clarksville, Virginia, some of her happiest moments have come from watching her big sisters compete.

She loves softball.

She loves volleyball.

And like many little sisters, Kaesyn dreams of growing up and becoming just like them.

One day, she hopes to step onto the field and court herself.

But before that dream can become reality, Kaesyn and her parents, Joseph and Tiffany, are preparing for an emotional journey across the Atlantic to Spain in search of treatment that they hope can change their daughter’s life.

It began last October.

Kaesyn was attending her sister’s volleyball practice when she fell and suffered a concussion. Her family expected her to gradually recover.

But the months pᴀssed, and Kaesyn still wasn’t getting better.

Concerned that something else might be happening, her parents continued seeking answers. Eventually, doctors ordered an MRI.

The results brought a frightening explanation.

Kaesyn was diagnosed with a Chiari malformation, a condition involving the brain, brainstem and spinal cord. According to her family, the condition has contributed to a long list of challenges, including central sleep apnea, balance problems, swallowing difficulties, sensory issues, headaches, nausea, light sensitivity, eye problems and emotional regulation difficulties.

It also helped explain why Kaesyn wasn’t improving as expected after her concussion.

Doctors recommended brain decompression surgery, a complex procedure that could take approximately six hours.

For her mother, Tiffany, the idea was overwhelming.

“I thought there must be a less invasive surgery out there,” she said.

So she kept searching.

That search eventually led the Nichols family to a respected physician in Barcelona, Spain. Tiffany says the doctor has offered a less invasive surgical approach that could take approximately 45 minutes.

Kaesyn’s procedure is scheduled for October 29.

Getting there, however, will be another challenge.

International travel, medical care and surgery will bring significant expenses for the family, but Joseph and Tiffany are determined to find a way.

They aren’t asking for their daughter to become a star athlete tomorrow.

They simply want her to have the chance to enjoy the ordinary things that most children take for granted.

They want Kaesyn to wake up without constant headaches.

They want her vision to improve.

They want her sleep apnea to be relieved.

And they want their little girl to have the opportunity to grow up healthy and pursue the dreams she already holds so тιԍнтly.

Because despite everything she has been facing, Kaesyn still looks toward the future.

Her dream is simple.

She wants to play softball.

She wants to play volleyball.

She wants to follow in the footsteps of her big sisters. 🥎🏐

“Kaesyn dreams of someday playing softball and volleyball,” Tiffany said, her voice filled with both emotion and hope.

For now, that dream is waiting.

First comes Spain.

First comes surgery.

First comes the long road toward recovery.

And a family hoping that this journey will finally bring their precious 5-year-old the answers and relief she has been waiting for.
