The investigation into the death of 4-year-old Javeayah Harris has taken another heartbreaking turn as authorities released new details about the evidence they say they uncovered during the case.

According to investigators, DNA testing confirmed that the human remains recovered belonged to Javeayah Harris. Authorities further allege that extensive efforts were made to destroy and conceal evidence after her death, including the use of corrosive chemicals before her remains were disposed of. Those allegations form part of the criminal case against her parents and will be examined through the court process.

Sheriff Marty Sawyer described the investigation as the most disturbing case he had encountered during his 37 years in law enforcement, saying investigators had uncovered evidence unlike anything he had previously seen. He also stated that it is unlikely all of Javeayah’s remains will ever be recovered because of the alleged efforts to destroy evidence.

Javeayah’s parents have been charged with homicide by child abuse and additional offenses related to the alleged destruction and desecration of human remains. They are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
