💗👶 BORN AT JUST 3 POUNDS, AVA SPENT 56 DAYS IN THE NICU — THEN SHE SHOWED EVERYONE WHAT A LITTLE FIGHTER COULD DO

When Ava was born on November 29, 2021, her parents knew immediately that their daughter’s first chapter would be very different from what they had imagined.

Ava arrived at just 30 weeks gestation, weighing only 3 pounds.

She was incredibly small and faced several medical challenges from the very beginning, including a grade 1 brain bleed and a diagnosis of congenital cytomegalovirus, or CMV.

Instead of bringing their newborn home, Ava’s parents found themselves entering the world of the neonatal intensive care unit.

The days that followed were filled with uncertainty.

They watched the monitors, waited for updates from doctors and nurses, and wondered how their tiny daughter would respond to treatment. Every gain in weight felt important. Every improvement was celebrated. Even the number of apnea episodes became something they anxiously tracked.

Ava initially needed CPAP, or continuous positive airway pressure, for approximately two weeks to help support her breathing.

Eventually, she transitioned to a nasal cannula as she became stronger and more capable of breathing with less ᴀssistance.

For her parents, watching their tiny daughter undergo medical procedures was incredibly difficult.

But they never stopped believing in her.

And Ava continued to surprise them.

Her doctors and nurses watched as she adapted to treatment and reached milestone after milestone.

After 56 days in the NICU, Ava was finally strong enough to leave the hospital.

The day her parents brought her home was filled with relief, happiness and tears.

They had spent nearly two months waiting for the moment when their little girl could finally sleep in her own home.

And Ava wasn’t finished surprising them.

By 10 months old, she was thriving and continuing to grow and develop beyond what her parents had dared to hope for.

She remained small, but she was energetic, social and full of personality.

Ava was also incredibly vocal, constantly chatting and making her presence known. She loved exploring her surroundings and meeting the world with curiosity.

For her family, every new milestone carried special meaning.

A smile was more than a smile.

A new sound was more than a sound.

Every step forward was a reminder of everything Ava had already overcome.

Her journey began with uncertainty, medical complications and 56 difficult days in a NICU.

But it also became a story about resilience.

Ava’s parents could never have known exactly what the future would hold when they first saw their tiny 3-pound baby surrounded by medical equipment.

Today, they can look at their daughter and see something remarkable.

Not simply the premature baby who survived.

But a happy, curious little girl who continues to grow, learn and surprise everyone around her.

Ava’s beginning was incredibly fragile — but her spirit proved anything but. 💗👣
