Some parents dream about bringing their newborn home.

For Matylda’s family, those dreams were replaced almost immediately by a desperate fight to keep their baby alive.

Little Matylda was born with Type IV Pulmonary Atresia, an exceptionally rare and complex congenital heart defect that prevents normal blood flow from the heart to the lungs. From her very first moments, doctors knew she would need intensive, highly specialized medical care. 💔

Her parents were able to hold their daughter for only a few precious minutes before she was rushed to intensive care.

Soon afterward, specialists delivered even more heartbreaking news.

In addition to her severe heart condition, Matylda was diagnosed with hydronephrosis of the left kidney, DiGeorge syndrome, and severe gastroesophageal reflux, which caused repeated episodes in which her oxygen levels dropped to dangerously low levels.

Every day became a fight for another breath.

Her parents recall terrifying moments when they had to begin emergency CPR themselves while waiting for medical teams to reach their daughter.

“It is impossible to describe the fear of holding your baby in your arms, praying for another breath,” they shared.

As if those challenges were not enough, Matylda later developed sepsis, creating yet another life-threatening emergency.

Doctors determined that immediate heart surgery offered her best chance of survival.

During the operation, surgeons discovered that her blood vessels were even smaller than expected—measuring only about one millimeter in diameter—making an already complex procedure extraordinarily difficult.

For a brief time, there was renewed hope.

Her heart responded well after surgery, and her family began believing brighter days might finally be ahead. ❤️

But the journey was far from over.

Matylda soon faced a series of serious complications, including a collapsed lung, severe emphysema, fluid accumulation in her abdomen, liver enlargement, and kidney failure.

She was placed back on a ventilator while doctors worked around the clock to stabilize her condition.

Then came one of the most frightening moments of all.

During treatment, Matylda’s heart suddenly stopped beating.

For 16 long minutes, doctors performed continuous resuscitation while preparing to place her on ECMO life support.

Then, against overwhelming odds, her tiny heart began beating again. 🙏

For her parents, it felt nothing short of a miracle.

Although Matylda has already survived more than many people experience in a lifetime, another enormous challenge now lies ahead.

According to her family, specialists explained that the highly specialized surgery she needs is not currently available in Poland.

Her best chance, they were told, is treatment at a leading pediatric cardiac center in the United States.

Determined to give their daughter every possible opportunity, her parents immediately began preparing for the journey.

They secured pᴀssports and visas and planned to travel as soon as possible so Matylda could undergo a crucial cardiac catheterization before receiving the next stage of treatment. ✈️💙

But another obstacle remains.

The cost of the complex surgery, hospitalization, and ongoing medical care is expected to reach several million Polish złoty.

Rising international medical expenses and currency exchange rates have made the financial burden even greater, leaving the family racing against time to raise the funds needed for their daughter’s treatment.

“We have always worked hard to provide for our children,” her parents shared.

“Now we are facing something far beyond anything we could ever prepare for.”

Despite everything they have endured, they refuse to give up hope.

Every day, they continue fighting for the little girl who has already shown extraordinary determination since the day she was born.

“Matylda has overcome challenge after challenge,” they said.

“We still believe she deserves the chance to grow up, laugh with her siblings, and experience the beautiful life every child deserves.”

Their story is one of resilience, unwavering love, and the incredible strength parents discover when fighting for their child.
