SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA — For nearly a year, Shalini Thakur, 38, was reportedly trying to distance herself from a 22-year-old man authorities say had been stalking and harᴀssing her.

On Sept. 8, 2026, that alleged pattern of harᴀssment ended in a fatal shooting outside Shalini’s workplace.

According to investigators and court records, Rohit Rohit had repeatedly targeted Shalini since 2025.

Authorities say the behavior went far beyond unwanted contact.

Investigators allege that Rohit secretly placed an Apple AirTag on Shalini’s vehicle so he could track her movements.

They also say he tampered with one of her tires and then appeared when she needed help, allegedly using the situation as another opportunity to approach her.

Court records further allege that he obtained a copy of Shalini’s house key and entered her home while she was sleeping.

Authorities also say Rohit pressured Shalini to marry him.

As the alleged harᴀssment continued, Shalini sought legal protection.

In May 2026, she obtained a restraining order against Rohit.

But according to authorities, the order did not end the alleged stalking.

Four months later, on Sept. 8, Shalini was outside her workplace in Sacramento when investigators say Rohit confronted her.
