💔🫁 SHE NEVER SMOKED — YET A PERSISTENT COUGH LED TO STAGE 4 LUNG CANCER

💔🫁 SHE NEVER SMOKED — YET A PERSISTENT COUGH LED TO STAGE 4 LUNG CANCER
At just 29 years old, Jade Fardon never expected a recurring cough to become the beginning of one of the most difficult journeys of her life.
She had always considered herself healthy and active. She had never smoked and had no reason to believe that a serious illness was developing inside her body.
But a cough that first appeared in 2020 refused to completely disappear.
Over the following years, Jade experienced recurring symptoms and visited doctors several times. She was repeatedly reᴀssured that her problems could be connected to Covid.
Jade trusted the advice she received and tried to continue with her life.
But something inside her kept saying that her body was trying to tell her something.
🥺 THE SYMPTOMS KEPT COMING
The cough was eventually joined by a series of other symptoms.
Jade developed a hoarse voice, swollen lymph nodes, night sweats, nausea and extreme fatigue.
The changes became increasingly difficult to overlook.
The energetic young woman she once knew no longer felt like herself. Instead of dismissing the symptoms, Jade began carefully recording what she was experiencing so she could explain everything clearly to her doctor.
In April 2022, she returned for further medical checks.
This time, doctors arranged a CT scan.
The results would completely change the direction of her life. 💔
🚨 A DIAGNOSIS NO ONE EXPECTED
The scan revealed extensive cancer affecting both of Jade’s lungs.
Further testing confirmed that she had ALK-positive stage 4 lung cancer, a form of non-small cell lung cancer ᴀssociated with a mutation involving the ALK gene.
Jade had suspected that something serious might be happening, but she never imagined the diagnosis would be lung cancer.
The news was particularly shocking because she had never smoked and had always considered herself healthy.
Doctors found that the original tumour in her lung was approximately 6 centimetres, with additional tumours affecting both lungs.
Suddenly, the future Jade had imagined was filled with appointments, treatment and uncertainty.
For someone still in her twenties, the diagnosis was almost impossible to comprehend.
Yet she knew she had to move forward.
🌸 TARGETED TREATMENT BROUGHT A PERIOD OF HOPE
After receiving her diagnosis, Jade began treatment.
Rather than traditional chemotherapy, doctors prescribed a targeted oral medication designed to work against the specific ALK mutation ᴀssociated with her cancer.
The treatment helped shrink the tumours and slow the progression of the disease.
For a period of time, Jade was able to return to work and experience something that had become incredibly valuable to her — a sense of normality. ❤️
She could focus on everyday life rather than allowing the illness to consume every moment.
Those ordinary days became precious.
But her journey was far from over.
💔 ANOTHER DEVASTATING DISCOVERY
In December 2023, a routine scan revealed that the cancer had reached Jade’s brain.
Doctors discovered 17 lesions.
The news brought back the uncertainty and fear surrounding her original diagnosis.
After hoping that treatment was keeping the disease under control, Jade suddenly faced another major challenge.
Doctors chose gamma knife therapy, a highly targeted form of radiation treatment designed to treat specific areas in the brain while limiting exposure to surrounding tissue.
Initially, the treatment appeared to be successful.
But later, one of the lesions progressed and resulted in a serious complication involving bleeding in the brain.
Jade then required surgery to remove the affected area.
Once again, her life changed in an instant. 💔
🙏 A STORY OF AWARENESS AND RESILIENCE
Jade’s journey is a powerful reminder that serious illnesses do not always fit the ᴀssumptions people make.
She was young.
She was active.
She had never smoked.
Yet she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
Her experience highlights why persistent or unusual symptoms should not simply be ignored, particularly when they continue or change over time.
For Jade, the journey has included uncertainty, difficult treatment decisions and moments that tested her strength in unimaginable ways.
But it has also included periods of hope — returning to work, enjoying everyday life and finding reasons to keep moving forward. 🌈❤️
Her story challenges the misconception that lung cancer is exclusively an illness affecting older smokers.
It also shows the importance of listening to your body and seeking medical advice when something does not feel right.
Jade’s journey continues, one day at a time.
And despite everything she has faced, she continues to find strength in the moments that matter most.
