💔👶 SHE GOT CHICKENPOX AT JUST 5 WEEKS PREGNANT — YEARS LATER, HER LITTLE GIRL IS LEARNING TO TAKE LIFE ONE STEP AT A TIME 🦿💗

When Anna Martin discovered she had chickenpox during the very early weeks of her pregnancy, one thought immediately filled her mind:

Would her unborn baby be okay? 💔

Anna was only about five weeks pregnant when her older daughter, Josephine, came home from childcare with chickenpox.

Soon afterward, Anna developed a fever and flu-like symptoms. Because she couldn’t remember whether she had ever had chickenpox herself, she became deeply worried about the pregnancy.

She says she contacted her doctor and hospital services five separate times, hoping to understand what was happening and whether her baby could be at risk.

At first, she was reᴀssured that her symptoms might simply be caused by an ordinary virus.

But then a painful spot appeared behind her ear.

Anna immediately became more concerned. She knew chickenpox could begin with spots before the familiar rash appeared, so she went back to the hospital.

This time, medical staff suspected chickenpox and isolated her.

Eventually, testing confirmed what Anna had feared:

The pregnancy continued, and months later, in November 2022, Anna and her fiancé, Iain Lewis, welcomed their daughter, Genevieve. 👶🌸

But their joy was soon accompanied by unexpected medical challenges.

Genevieve was born with congenital varicella syndrome, a rare condition that can occur when a developing baby is affected by chickenpox infection during pregnancy, particularly when the infection happens early in gestation.

The condition can affect different parts of the body, including the limbs, skin, eyes, and nervous system.

For Genevieve, the effects included significant abnormalities involving her limbs.

At just 14 months old, she underwent a life-changing procedure that resulted in the loss of part of her right leg.

Today, little Genevieve is growing up with a prosthetic leg. 🦿❤️

Her journey has already included challenges most children will never have to face. But her family refuses to let those challenges define who she is.

Instead, they celebrate every new milestone.
