❤️🕊️ After Being Told Her Illness Was Terminal at 22, Annaliese Holland Chose to Fill Her Life With Dreams Instead of Fear
When Annaliese Holland was told at just 22 years old that her rare illness was terminal, she faced a decision few young adults could imagine.
She could allow the diagnosis to define her future—or she could make every day count.
Annaliese, from Adelaide, Australia, has spent much of her life living with Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy (AAG), an exceptionally rare autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the nerves responsible for controlling essential involuntary body functions.
Her path to diagnosis was long and difficult, taking six years before doctors identified the condition. During that time, her health continued to decline, dramatically changing the course of her life.
For more than a decade, Annaliese has been unable to eat or drink normally. Instead, she relies on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), receiving all of her nutrients directly into her bloodstream through a catheter placed in her chest.
The years that followed brought one challenge after another. She has survived sepsis more than two dozen times, experienced multiple spinal fractures, and faced episodes of organ failure. Despite countless hospital stays and ongoing medical treatment, she has continued moving forward with remarkable resilience.
After careful medical ᴀssessment, Annaliese was approved for Australia’s Voluntary ᴀssisted Dying program. She has openly shared that receiving approval did not mean she wanted to end her life. Rather, she described it as a source of reᴀssurance—a “safety blanket” that gave her peace of mind while she continued focusing on living as fully as possible.
Instead of allowing fear to shape her remaining time, Annaliese created a bucket list filled with experiences she had always hoped to enjoy.
Since then, she has achieved several meaningful milestones, including moving into her own apartment, taking a helicopter flight, and being present for the birth of a close friend’s baby. Each accomplishment represents far more than an item checked off a list; it reflects her determination to embrace life despite extraordinary challenges.
Through her public updates, Annaliese continues to encourage others to appreciate ordinary moments that are often taken for granted. Her message is not centered on illness but on purpose, graтιтude, and making meaningful memories regardless of life’s uncertainties.
Her journey has inspired thousands because it highlights a simple yet powerful truth: while no one can predict exactly how much time they have, everyone has the opportunity to decide how they will spend it.
For Annaliese, every new experience is a reminder that life is measured not only by its length, but by the courage, love, and unforgettable moments created along the way. ❤️🕊️
