A new legal dispute has emerged in the Lindsay Clancy trial after defense attorney Kevin Reddington asked the judge to add Emily Thorndike, a former McLean Hospital clinical social worker, to the defense witness list.
Thorndike attracted attention after posting a TikTok criticizing the prosecution’s portrayal of McLean Hospital and its staffing during Clancy’s December 2022 stay. She argued that the picture presented in court did not accurately reflect conditions on the unit.

rosecutors have opposed allowing her to testify, emphasizing that Thorndike left McLean about a year before Clancy was admitted and therefore did not personally treat Clancy. The judge has not immediately ruled on the request and indicated that the narrower question of staffing could potentially be examined outside the jury’s presence first.
The dispute could become significant for the defense, which is arguing that Clancy’s psychiatric treatment and mental state should be considered when determining her criminal responsibility. The prosecution disputes that interpretation and continues to present evidence supporting its case.
