A late-night incident inside a Memphis home has led to a tragic loss of life and a murder charge against a mother who told investigators she believed she was protecting her child. ⚖️

According to the Memphis Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call around 1:45 a.m. on July 16, 2026, in the Walker Homes neighborhood. When they arrived, they found an adult man in the front yard suffering from a gunsH๏τ wound. He was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene. 🚔

Authorities arrested 36-year-old Kendra Scott, who later told investigators that she had discovered the man hiding beneath her young daughter’s bed.

According to police, Scott said, “I did what I had to do,” explaining that she believed she was protecting her child from an intruder. 💔

As the investigation continued, detectives learned that the situation may have been different from what Scott initially believed. Police say the daughter told investigators that she had invited the man into the home earlier that night without her mother’s knowledge.
