💙👶 CONJOINED TWINS WHO SHARE PARTS OF THEIR BODIES ARE PREPARING FOR A LIFE-CHANGING SURGERY

For five-year-old brothers Artur and Heitor Rocha, being together has been their only reality. 🥹👬
Born in Bahia, Brazil, the twins are joined at the pelvis and share three legs, parts of their intestines, a bladder, a liver and their genital organs. Now, after years of growing up side by side, they are preparing for an extraordinarily complex surgery that could finally allow them to live as two independent boys. 🏥💙
The twins will undergo separation surgery at the hips. Each boy is expected to keep one leg, while their third shared leg will be used to provide vital tissue and skin grafts needed during the reconstruction. 🦵🩺
Their internal organs will also need to be carefully divided. Artur is expected to have two kidneys, while Heitor will have one. Because they share genital organs, further reconstructive procedures will likely be necessary after the initial separation. 💙🙏
The operation carries significant risks, particularly during recovery. Doctors have warned that they cannot predict exactly how the boys’ bodies will respond afterward. 🏥💔

To prepare for the surgery, Artur and Heitor are currently undergoing treatment with silicone skin expanders. The goal is to gradually create enough additional skin to close the areas of their chest, abdomen and pelvis after separation. ✨
Their pediatric surgeon, Dr. Zacharias Calil, has cared for the boys since birth and describes their case as exceptionally complex.
But their mother, Eliane, remains hopeful. ❤️
She says the boys themselves understand that a major operation is ahead and have told her they want to be separated. They dream of having greater independence — being able to decide where they want to go and what they want to do. 🥹🌈
Despite sharing the same body for their entire lives, Artur and Heitor already have very different personalities. Their mother describes one as tougher and the other as sweeter, with each having his own interests and preferences. 👦💙👦
Sometimes they want to play different games or go different places, which means they are already learning an important lesson: compromise. 🤝
Their journey began when their parents discovered the twins were conjoined during a pregnancy scan. After their birth, Eliane spent weeks in the hospital learning how to care for and feed her newborn sons.
Those early months were exhausting, but the family gradually adapted to life together. ❤️

Now, they are waiting for the next chapter.
The separation surgery is expected to take place in the coming months, and although the risks are enormous, their family is holding onto hope that the procedure will give Artur and Heitor the independence they have been dreaming about. 🙏💙
Two brothers. Two personalities. One extraordinary journey toward two separate lives. 👬🌈✨
