A Donna, Texas, family is mourning the loss of 22-year-old Jesús Manuel Renteria Martinez Jr., who died September 6 after a devastating vehicle crash in Edinburg.

Paloma reached out to share Jesús’ story because his family wants people to remember more than the circumstances surrounding his pᴀssing. They want others to know who he was.

Despite his young age, Jesús had already ᴀssumed significant responsibilities within his household.

He worked.

He went to school.

And he helped provide for his mother, Martha, and his younger siblings, Ashly, Brandon, and Dilan.

To his siblings, Jesús was much more than an older brother.

They looked up to him almost like a father.

That makes his sudden loss especially difficult to comprehend. The person they depended on, laughed with, and expected to have beside them for years is suddenly no longer there.

According to his family, Jesús was traveling home during the early morning hours of September 6 when the crash occurred in Edinburg.

They say he was driving along Trenton toward Valverde when his truck went off the end of the road and into a canal.

The truck caught fire, and Jesús did not survive.

In one heartbreaking moment, a 22-year-old who had spent so much of his young life helping hold his family together was gone. 💔

Those who knew Jesús remember him as cheerful, loving, hardworking, responsible, and respectful.

He loved to cook.

He loved to dance.

And he loved making people laugh.

His life also included a strong connection to music and his former school community.

Jesús graduated from Donna North High School in 2022, where he played tuba with the Rising Chief Band.

His former band family remembered him as someone who was “always full of life, joy, and laughter,” describing a positive spirit that stayed with the people around him.

That description reflects the memories his family is now holding onto.

Jesús was the person who showed up.

The person who helped.

The older brother his younger siblings could lean on.

Now, his family is preparing for services Thursday while facing the painful reality of moving forward without him.

For Martha, the loss is the loss of a son.

For Ashly, Brandon, and Dilan, it is the loss of a brother who had become a guiding presence in their lives.

And for everyone who knew Jesús, it is the loss of a young man whose future should have held so much more.

His family is now asking for prayers and comforting words as they prepare to say their final goodbye.
