💔🕊️ Beaumont Woman Dies After Shooting; Murder Charge Filed in Domestic Violence Investigation
BEAUMONT, TEXAS — A heartbreaking domestic violence case has left a Texas community mourning the loss of a young woman remembered for her kindness, compᴀssion, and love for those around her.
Tammy Dawson, 25, died following a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of June 6, 2026, at a residence on Heartfield Lane in Beaumont.
According to authorities, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:40 a.m. reporting a shooting inside the home. Upon arrival, they discovered Dawson suffering from a gunsH๏τ wound to the head. Emergency responders immediately provided aid before transporting her to St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Doctors worked to save her life, but the injury resulted in severe traumatic brain damage. Although she initially survived the shooting, Dawson was left in critical condition and later died from her injuries.
Investigators quickly focused their attention on 44-year-old Brandon Chretien, Dawson’s boyfriend, who had placed the emergency call.
According to court records, Chretien initially claimed that the shooting occurred during a struggle over a firearm. However, investigators say evidence collected at the scene did not support that account.
Authorities reported that the handgun involved was recovered from a bedside table, and forensic findings allegedly indicated that Dawson’s injury was not self-inflicted. Investigators concluded that the evidence pointed to an intentional shooting rather than an accidental discharge during a struggle.
Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, gathering physical evidence, documenting the scene, and interviewing witnesses familiar with the couple.
Initially, Chretien was charged with aggravated ᴀssault with a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly weapon causing serious bodily injury. Following Dawson’s death, the Jefferson County Grand Jury upgraded the case, indicting him on a charge of first-degree murder.
Investigators also reported allegations that Dawson had been attempting to distance herself from the relationship prior to the incident. Law enforcement officials noted signs consistent with a troubled and potentially abusive relationship.
Additionally, authorities allege that Chretien threatened a witness connected to the case, raising further concerns during the investigation.
During a post-arrest hearing, a magistrate ordered that Chretien be held without bond. Conditions imposed by the court included GPS monitoring, a prohibition on possessing firearms or ammunition, and restrictions on contacting witnesses.
For those who knew Tammy Dawson, however, the legal proceedings cannot erase the pain of losing someone they loved.
Family and friends describe her as a caring and compᴀssionate woman whose warmth touched everyone around her. Many have shared memories of her kindness, generosity, and ability to bring comfort to others.
As the case moves through the court system, loved ones continue to honor Tammy’s memory while calling for justice on behalf of a life taken far too soon.
