💔🕊️ Akron Teen Remembered as a Hero After Tragic Incident During Family Dog Emergency

AKRON, Ohio — A heartbreaking tragedy has left an Ohio community grieving after 15-year-old Josiah Harris lost his life while reportedly trying to protect both a close friend and a beloved family dog during a chaotic incident at an Akron home.

According to the Akron Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on the 1200 block of Packard Drive.

Investigators say a 14-year-old boy was visiting the home when a large Cane Corso suddenly became aggressive and clamped onto his arm. In the frightening moments that followed, the teenager attempted to stop the dog by using a f!rearm. Several rounds were discharged, and one tragically struck Josiah Harris in the abdomen.

Despite immediate efforts to save him, Harris was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he later pᴀssed away.

Family members say the teenager’s actions reflected the compᴀssionate person he had always been. They believe Josiah was trying to protect both his friend and the family dog when the devastating incident unfolded.

“He cherished that dog,” said his uncle, Tim Robbins. “He was trying to protect him, and that’s when everything went terribly wrong.”

Neighbors rushed outside after hearing the commotion. Among them was Tyler James, a combat medic with the Ohio Army National Guard, who immediately began performing CPR while waiting for emergency responders.

James later recalled the emotional moments they shared before paramedics arrived.

“He kept saying, ‘Just tell my mom I love her,'” James said. “I did everything I could to keep him with me.”

The 14-year-old involved was also taken to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries to his arm. Authorities say he is expected to recover physically, though the emotional impact on everyone involved is expected to last much longer.

The Cane Corso also survived, despite being injured during the incident.

Josiah’s family remembers him as a bright, funny, and caring teenager who loved animals, valued friendship, and always looked out for others. A member of a set of triplets, he was preparing to begin his sophomore year at Buchtel High School, where loved ones say his kind spirit touched many lives.

As relatives struggle to cope with the unimaginable loss, they continue to celebrate the compᴀssion that defined Josiah’s life.

Akron police have not announced any criminal charges at this time. Investigators are now working to determine how the young teen gained access to the f!rearm and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We’re not ruling anything out,” said Lt. Michael Murphy. “We need to determine where the f!rearm came from, who it belonged to, and exactly how this tragic event unfolded.”

As the investigation continues, Josiah Harris is being remembered not for the tragedy that took him, but for the kindness, courage, and selflessness he showed in his final moments—qualities that have left an unforgettable mark on his family, friends, and the Akron community.
