💔🏈 HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE SENIOR PICTURES AND ONE FINAL FOOTBALL SEASON — INSTEAD, HIS FAMILY IS LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT HIM

A 17-year-old Wisconsin high school football player entered his senior season expecting the things that make a final year of high school so special.

Friday night games.

Senior pictures.

Time with friends.

One last season representing the school he loved.

Adam Mᴀssman never made it home from the first game.

Adam, a rising senior and quarterback and defensive back at Alma Center Lincoln High School, suffered a severe head injury during the team’s season opener on August 20.

His mother, Brianne, says the family knows only that Adam experienced helmet-to-helmet contact during the game.

Two days later, Adam died.

Now, his family is discovering that grief doesn’t always arrive in the biggest moments.

Sometimes, it is sitting quietly on a bathroom vanity. 💔

Adam frequently used his mother’s flatiron — more often than she did — and he always left it sitting out.

Brianne would remind him to put it away.

He left it there before heading to the football game.

Now she can’t bring herself to move it.

“It’s the little things that bring heartbreak,” she wrote.

Then came another moment that broke her heart.

Brianne pulled out Adam’s black football jersey for his brother Brett to wear. She began taking pictures of the jersey beside Adam’s truck, trying different angles and positions.

Then she realized what she was doing.

“It hit me this was like doing senior pics that he never got.”

That realization captured everything Adam was supposed to have experienced this year.

Football was an important part of his life, but it was only one part of who he was.

His mother says Adam was also a cattle showman, a baseball and track athlete, a son, a brother and a friend. He worked hard, cared about others and was someone people could count on.

Now, the communities around him are showing just how much he meant.

The final goodbyes will begin Friday at Adam’s own high school.

Other football programs are also honoring his memory, including a moment of silence before a Friday night game and a collection intended to help his family.

A local church is opening its doors for people who want to pray and light candles in his memory. 🙏🕯️

For his family, none of these gestures can change what happened.

They cannot give Adam back his senior season.

They cannot give him the senior pictures he never got.

They cannot replace the son, brother and friend they lost.

But they can remind his loved ones that Adam’s life mattered — and that his memory will continue to live through the people who knew him.

As Brianne and her family prepare for the final goodbyes, they are facing the kind of heartbreak no parent should ever have to experience.
