NORFOLK, Virginia — A family is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Alexis Styles after a tragic early morning incident on Interstate 264 left her gone and another person injured.

Virginia State Police identified Styles as the pᴀssenger who lost her life after a vehicle she was traveling in was struck while heading eastbound on the interstate near Campostella Road and Ballentine Boulevard.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators said a burgundy Nissan sedan was traveling through the area when multiple sH๏τs struck the vehicle.

The driver, identified by family members as Cortez Ames, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

For Alexis’ family, the tragedy is especially painful because the morning began as a normal part of her routine.

Her cousin, Lashayla Horne, said Ames regularly drove Alexis to her job as a breakfast attendant at a local H๏τel. She explained that he had supported Alexis in getting the position and helped her maintain her daily work schedule.

What should have been an ordinary trip to work before sunrise became a devastating moment that changed the family forever.

Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect, motive, or whether the vehicle was intentionally targeted. The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
