Little Alexander Petrilli is only two years old, but he is already facing an extraordinary medical battle. 👶💔

Born in Florida in December 2023, Alexander was diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries (TGA), a serious congenital heart defect in which the heart’s two major arteries are switched. 🫀🏥

Although doctors treated him early, Alexander later developed severe pulmonary hypertension, placing enormous strain on both his heart and lungs. His condition has now become so complex that doctors say he needs a combined heart and double-lung transplant. 🫀🫁🫁

Alexander is currently receiving care at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where his medical team is working to keep him stable while he waits for a suitable donor. 🏥💙

He has also been fitted with a Berlin Heart, an external mechanical pump that helps support his heart while doctors work to control the dangerous pressure in his lungs. 🩺

For his parents, Michael and Kayla Petrilli, every day is filled with uncertainty. They know that finding a donor who is the right size for their little boy could be extremely difficult. 🙏💔

Yet amid all the machines, monitors and hospital treatments, Alexander remains a little boy who loves to smile, sit up, look at books and spend time with his family. 🥹📖💙

His parents say he has shown incredible strength throughout everything he has endured.

A heart-and-double-lung transplant in a toddler is extraordinarily rare, and the wait for the right organs can be long. For Alexander’s family, however, hope remains. 🌈🙏

They are asking people to keep their little boy in their thoughts and to remember the importance of organ donation, which can give critically ill children a second chance at life. ❤️🫁
