A Baltimore family is grieving the devastating loss of 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and her 9-year-old brother, Steve Allen, after the two siblings were found with multiple gunsH๏τ wounds inside their home on July 7.

According to court documents, investigators believe the tragedy was preceded by warning signs that have now become a central focus of the investigation.

Authorities say Giovanna had reportedly confided in a friend just days before the incident, expressing fear about her boyfriend.

Charging documents allege that the teenager told her friend she had been threatened if she became involved with another boy. Investigators also say she reported that a firearm had been used to intimidate her and sent a message asking for help.

Officials have not publicly stated whether law enforcement or other adults were aware of those reported concerns before the incident.

Police say 16-year-old Keith Maurice James Jr. has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of both siblings.

The charges are allegations only, and James is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Investigators say that three days before the incident, Giovanna and James participated in a FaceTime call with one of her friends. According to court records, that witness later told detectives James appeared on the video call while holding a firearm.

Authorities also allege that on the afternoon of July 7, Giovanna informed the same friend that James planned to visit her home later that day.

Investigators say cellphone location data and surveillance footage later placed James near the residence around 4:20 p.m.

Several hours later, Giovanna’s mother returned home and made the heartbreaking discovery of both children inside the residence.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but both siblings could not be saved.

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough later described Steve Allen as an innocent child who appeared to have had no involvement in the circumstances investigators believe led to the violence.

Authorities have not publicly released a complete timeline of what occurred inside the home, nor have they disclosed additional details regarding the weapon allegedly involved.

Investigators also say James told officers he had not seen Giovanna in person since July 4, but they allege cellphone records and surveillance evidence contradict that statement.
