A terrifying night turned into a story of courage and survival after a 12-year-old North Carolina girl allegedly disappeared from a sleepover and was later found running barefoot and crying along a highway. 😢🌲

According to authorities, the girl had been visiting a friend’s home in Lillington, North Carolina, when her friend’s uncle, 38-year-old Daniel Francis Gear, allegedly took her from the house without her guardian’s consent. 🚨

Investigators say Gear drove her in his pickup truck to a wooded area several miles away. The girl later told a pᴀsserby that he allegedly forced her out of the vehicle, pushed her and made her walk through the woods. 💔🌳

But the brave girl managed to escape.

She eventually made her way out of the woods and toward a nearby highway, where she was spotted by motorist Jennifer Maxwell. The girl was barefoot, visibly distressed and covered in scratches. 🥺🦶

Maxwell stopped to help.

When she asked the child if she was okay, the girl reportedly answered that she had been kidnapped. Maxwell immediately took her to a nearby police station so she could receive help. ❤️🚗

The discovery triggered a mᴀssive search for Gear. Authorities deployed drones and K-9 units while warning that he could be armed and dangerous. 🔎🚔

After a roughly seven-hour manhunt, Gear was located near a wooded area and taken into custody. He has been charged with first-degree kidnapping and ᴀssault on a female and is being held on a $2.5 million secured bond, according to court records.

The young girl was taken to the hospital and is now recovering with her family. 💗🙏
