More than three weeks after the death of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, while his family continues to seek answers. 💙

Nolan, a college freshman and athlete from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, disappeared during a boating trip to Horn Island on July 4, 2026. According to those who were with him, the group had spent part of the holiday on the island when their boat began experiencing mechanical problems.

His friend, Warren Hudson, later described a tense exchange in which another member of the group urged Nolan to return to the boat. Hudson said Nolan chose to remain on the island, believing he would return later with someone else. The group eventually left without him, and Nolan was reported missing later that day. After an extensive search, his body was recovered near the shoreline on July 6. 🚤

In recent weeks, Nolan’s family has raised concerns about the contents of his cellphone after discovering that his two Snapchat accounts no longer contained pH๏τos or videos. His mother, Christine Wonsley, described the absence of the data as suspicious and has called for a thorough examination of the device. Represented by attorney Ben Crump, the family continues to seek full transparency regarding the events leading up to Nolan’s death. 📱

Responding publicly for the first time, Hudson strongly denied any suggestion that he or anyone else on the trip accessed or altered Nolan’s phone.

“There was no reason for us to get on Nolan’s phone. No one touched Nolan’s phone,” Hudson said during an interview. He explained that the phone remained on the boat while the group was in the water and that none of his friends knew Nolan’s pᴀsscode.

“We had no reason to delete anything,” he added. “There’s nothing to hide here.” 🤍

Hudson, who has described Nolan as his best friend, also spoke about the emotional impact the case has had on him, saying he faced intense online criticism and even received death threats following the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the official investigation remains active.

An independent autopsy commissioned by Nolan’s family and conducted by forensic pathologist Dr. Roger Mitchell concluded that both the cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further investigation. The report noted an area of discoloration in the deep soft tissue at the back of Nolan’s head. However, because of advanced decomposition and the absence of fractures or other ᴀssociated injuries, investigators could not determine whether the finding represented an injury sustained before death.

The report emphasized that the finding deserves additional investigation and stated that foul play has not been ruled out. 🧬

Nolan was later laid to rest during a large funeral attended by family, friends, and members of his community. His mother has continued to urge anyone with information to come forward while asking people to keep her son’s memory alive.
