A Washington family is grieving after 29-year-old Omar Espinoza Acosta was found days after disappearing while fishing with friends along the Columbia River.

Omar disappeared on Wednesday while spending time with friends near the river north of Pasco, Washington. What began as a normal fishing trip quickly became a desperate search involving emergency crews, volunteers, and members of the local community.

According to witnesses, Omar attempted to cross what appeared to be a shallow channel to reach another fishing area. During the attempt, he lost his balance and was swept away by the river’s current.

His friends immediately tried to help, but they were unable to reach him before he disappeared beneath the water.

Following the incident, search teams launched an extensive operation to locate Omar. Rescue crews used multiple resources, including boats, sonar equipment, diving teams, drones, and ground units as they searched the river and surrounding areas.
