On February 10, 2026, 12-year-old Maya GΔbala was inside the library at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in northeastern British Columbia when an 18-year-old former student opened fire.
As danger unfolded around her, Maya did something incredibly brave.
She tried to lock the library door.
In those terrifying moments, she was thinking not only about herself, but about protecting the people around her. π
