The family and friends of 22-year-old Logan Federico continue to mourn the loss of a young woman whose life was tragically cut short during what authorities described as a random and senseless home invasion in Columbia, South Carolina.

Logan, from Waxhaw, North Carolina, had traveled to Columbia to visit friends. What was meant to be a simple gathering quickly turned into a devastating tragedy when an alleged crime spree led to a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly encounter inside the home where she was staying.

According to the Columbia Police Department, Logan was found unresponsive inside a residence on Cypress Street during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025. Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford later confirmed that Logan died from a single gunsH๏τ injury to the chest, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.

Authorities said the incident was part of a larger series of crimes allegedly committed by 30-year-old Alexander Dickey, also identified in some reports as Alexander Devonte Dickey.

During a press conference, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook described the events leading up to Logan’s death. Investigators said Dickey allegedly first entered another home, taking items including vehicle keys and a firearm. He then allegedly broke into the Cypress Street residence, took personal belongings, and later entered the room where Logan was located.

Police stated that Logan was not specifically targeted.

“Logan was a helpless victim, she was not an intended target,” Chief Holbrook said.

After leaving the scene, authorities allege that Dickey continued moving through the area, using stolen financial cards at multiple locations before eventually being arrested in Lexington County.

Dickey was taken into custody after authorities said he was involved in additional criminal activity, including another alleged break-in and a fire at a residence in Gaston. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and denied bond.

He faces a murder charge connected to Logan’s death, along with multiple other charges related to the alleged crime spree. As of July 2026, he remains in custody, while his previous criminal history has drawn renewed public discussion about repeat offenders and community safety.

For Logan’s family, the loss has been impossible to comprehend.

Her father, Stephen Federico, spoke publicly about his daughter’s life, describing her as a joyful, determined young woman with a caring heart and a promising future.

“I am Logan Federico’s father, better known as dad or her hero. Unfortunately that day, I could not be her hero,” he said.

Despite his grief, Stephen shared a message of strength, saying that his daughter’s spirit would continue to live on.

“You can’t kill my spirit,” he said while speaking about the impact Logan had on those around her.

He remembered Logan as someone who worked hard, balanced school with two jobs, and dreamed of becoming a teacher because of her love for children. Her goal, he said, was to make a positive difference in young people’s lives.

“She will live on forever—not physically, but through the people she touched and protected,” he shared.

Stephen also expressed appreciation for the law enforcement officers and community members who supported the family throughout the difficult days following Logan’s death.

A celebration of life ceremony was held in May 2025, bringing together family, friends, and loved ones to honor Logan’s kindness, ambition, and the dreams she never had the chance to fulfill.

More than a year later, Logan’s story continues to be remembered by those who knew her and by communities in both North Carolina and South Carolina. Her death remains a painful reminder of how quickly lives can change and the lasting impact violent crime can have on families and communities.
