💙🕊️ Helianny’s Story Inspires With Resilience, Family Love, and Unwavering Hope

When Soleannys Carolina Lugo Estrada learned she was expecting her first child, she imagined the future many parents dream about—watching her baby grow, celebrating milestones, and building a lifetime of memories together.

Those hopes were shaken during a routine prenatal ultrasound at approximately four months of pregnancy. Doctors diagnosed her unborn daughter, Helianny, with severe birth defects caused by Amniotic Band Syndrome, a rare condition in which fibrous bands from the amniotic sac can restrict fetal development. According to her family, the condition affected multiple parts of Helianny’s body, including her hands, feet, face, skull, and brain.

Faced with an uncertain prognosis, Soleannys and her husband were informed that their daughter might not survive or could live only a short time after birth. Despite the difficult outlook, they chose to continue the pregnancy, determined to give their child every possible chance at life.

On August 21, 2015, Helianny was born at 39 weeks. Although she arrived with complex medical needs, her birth marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey defined by determination, resilience, and unconditional family support.

During her first months of life, Helianny required intensive medical care and remained under close observation. Over the years, she underwent multiple surgeries, including procedures to treat hydrocephalus with a shunt, correct a clubfoot, and repair a cleft lip. Each operation presented new challenges, but her family remained committed to supporting her recovery every step of the way.

As Helianny grew older, she continued reaching developmental milestones that many had once believed impossible. Her parents celebrated every achievement, no matter how small, recognizing each one as a testament to her remarkable determination. They describe her as a joyful child who loves the sound of water, enjoys being around dogs, and expresses affection by gently touching the faces of those she loves.

Along the way, the family has also faced insensitive comments and online criticism because of Helianny’s appearance. Rather than allowing negativity to define their journey, Soleannys has used their story to advocate for compᴀssion, acceptance, and the dignity of people living with disabilities and rare conditions.

Today, Helianny participates in family celebrations, birthdays, and everyday activities alongside those who love her. Her parents remain focused on giving her every opportunity to experience life, believing that every child deserves respect, inclusion, and the chance to thrive.
