When Marieme and Ndeye were born in Senegal, their parents had expected to welcome one healthy baby.

Instead, they were told that their daughters were conjoined twins and might survive for only a few days. 💔👶👶

For their father, Ibrahima, those first moments were filled with fear and uncertainty.

Doctors initially believed that separating the girls could give them the best chance of survival.

But their journey would soon become far more complicated.

💔🏥 TWO SISTERS, ONE SHARED BODY
Marieme and Ndeye share a pelvis and a pair of legs, while each girl has her own heart and spinal cord.

Although they have different personalities, they have grown up completely dependent on one another.

Their lives require constant specialist care and careful planning, even for ordinary everyday activities. 💙

Their family eventually traveled to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, hoping specialists might be able to separate the twins safely.

But after extensive examinations, doctors discovered that Marieme’s heart was too weak to withstand such a complicated operation.

The family was faced with an impossible decision.

🥹💙 A FATHER REFUSED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN HIS DAUGHTERS
For Ibrahima, there was never really a choice.

He could not imagine making a decision that might save one daughter at the expense of the other.

Instead, the family chose to keep the sisters together.

It was a decision filled with uncertainty, but also with love.

And rather than focusing on how long the girls might live, their father decided to focus on how they would live.

The girls eventually moved with their father to Cardiff, Wales, where they continue receiving specialist medical care.

But their lives are about much more than hospitals.

They attend a mainstream primary school.

They spend time with friends.

Their father has support from specialist carers, while two classroom ᴀssistants help them at school.

His greatest wish is simple:

He wants his daughters to experience as much of a normal childhood as possible.

👣✨ EVERY LITTLE MILESTONE IS A VICTORY
Even simple activities can require enormous effort.

Getting dressed can be complicated because of their shared body structure.

Moving around requires careful ᴀssistance.

And learning to stand and walk takes patience and daily practice.

The girls currently spend around 20 minutes each day practicing with a standing frame, working toward becoming more confident on their feet. 👣🌸

Every small improvement matters.

A little more balance.

A little more confidence.

A new movement.

A new skill.

For most children, these moments might seem ordinary.

For Marieme and Ndeye, they are extraordinary achievements. 💗
