💔🙏 14-Year-Old Victoria Pérez Faces Another Brain Surgery as Family Receives Devastating Update
Six weeks ago, thousands of people came together to pray for 14-year-old Victoria Pérez after what initially seemed like an ordinary headache led doctors to discover a cancerous brain tumor.
Now, her family is asking for those prayers again.
Victoria had been preparing for another difficult stage in her treatment after undergoing brain surgery in Corpus Christi. Her family traveled from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas to MD Anderson in Houston on Monday, believing they were there to prepare for radiation treatments.
They expected to return home to Edinburg that evening.
Instead, a phone call changed everything.
Doctors urgently asked Victoria and her parents to return to the hospital first thing Tuesday morning because they had important news.
“The moment we received that call, our hearts sank,” Victoria’s aunt, Maricela, said.
The family soon learned why.
According to Maricela, approximately two months after Victoria’s brain surgery, the portion of the tumor that surgeons could not safely remove has grown again.
Doctors have now told the family that Victoria needs another brain surgery immediately.
But that was not the only devastating update.
Maricela says cancer cells have also been discovered on Victoria’s spine, and doctors have described the cancer as very aggressive.
For the family, the news has been overwhelming.
Only six weeks ago, they were preparing themselves for a difficult battle and hoping treatment would give Victoria a path forward. Now, they feel as though they have been brought back to the beginning of an even more challenging fight.
“It feels like we have been taken back to the beginning,” Maricela said.
Victoria is only 14 years old.
She is also an only child, making the situation particularly painful for her parents, Ruth and Josué.
Ruth has been blind since birth, while Josué is also dealing with a tumor in his throat. Now, the couple is hundreds of miles from their home in South Texas, facing another major surgery for their daughter while carrying the weight of their own health struggles.
For any parent, hearing that their child needs another brain operation would be devastating. For Victoria’s family, the news comes after months of treatment, travel and uncertainty.
Yet they continue to stand beside their daughter.
And they are asking the people who prayed for Victoria before to come together once again. 🕊️
They are asking for prayers for the medical team preparing to operate on her, hoping the doctors will have wisdom and skill as they face another complicated procedure.
They are asking for strength for Ruth and Josué as they absorb news that no parent should ever have to hear.
And they are asking people not to forget Victoria herself.
Six weeks ago, her frightened face touched thousands of hearts.
Today, that same 14-year-old girl is facing another enormous challenge.
She needs to know that the people who stood with her before are still standing with her now.
Victoria’s family knows the road ahead will not be easy. But they are continuing to hope, continuing to seek treatment and continuing to fight for their daughter.
For a teenager who should be thinking about school, friends and the ordinary experiences of growing up, the past several months have instead been filled with hospitals, surgeries and difficult medical news.
Now another surgery is approaching, and her family is asking for a community of support around her.
🙏 Pray for Victoria.
Pray for wisdom and steady hands for the doctors preparing to operate.
Pray for strength and comfort for Ruth and Josué.
Pray for the medical team searching for the best path forward.
And pray for Victoria herself—that she can continue finding the courage to face one day at a time.
Most importantly, remind this young girl that she has not been forgotten.
Victoria, the people who prayed for you six weeks ago are still here. Your story is still being heard. Your family is still fighting beside you. And an entire army of people is still hoping and praying for you. 💗🕊️
