The nation is mourning the loss of Will Roberts, the courageous 15-year-old from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, whose remarkable determination in the face of a rare and aggressive bone cancer inspired countless people across the country.

In the early hours of July 23, 2026, at 12:45 a.m. CT, Will pᴀssed away peacefully, surrounded by the family who stood beside him throughout every step of his 18-month journey.

His mother, Brittany Battles Roberts, shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional Facebook post.

“Will is finally ringing his forever cancer-free bell as he entered the gates of Heaven… There isn’t a mother alive who could ever find the right words to write a post like this. Will was so much more than cancer.”

Will was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, in January 2025. Over the next year and a half, he endured intensive chemotherapy, countless hospital stays, and a complex rotationplasty—a rare limb-sparing procedure in which part of his lower leg was removed, rotated 180 degrees, and reattached so his ankle could function as a knee joint for a prosthetic limb.

Despite every treatment, the cancer continued to spread.

In April 2026, after conventional therapies had been exhausted, Will made a heartfelt public plea. In a video shared on Facebook, he directly appealed to President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., asking for help accessing an experimental treatment that represented his final hope.

The emotional video quickly went viral, drawing nationwide attention and an outpouring of support from people across the United States.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, then serving as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, personally helped connect Will’s medical team with researchers developing the experimental therapy. By early May, Will was able to begin the treatment.

For a short time, hope returned.

Sadly, the disease proved relentless. When the cancer spread to Will’s brain and began affecting his cognitive abilities, his family made the heartbreaking decision to end aggressive treatment and focus on keeping him comfortable during his remaining days.

Leaders across Alabama also honored Will’s extraordinary life.

Governor Kay Ivey called him “a brave young man whose courage inspired us all,” adding that he is now healed and free from pain. U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville praised Will for fighting with incredible strength and said his story inspired millions during his far-too-short life.
