💔👶 “DON’T LET MY BABY DI…” — THE HEARTBREAKING JOURNEY OF COBIE MILES, THE LITTLE BOY FIGHTING FOR A BETTER FUTURE

SURREY, ENGLAND — For Shanine Skilton-Cole, the birth of her son Cobie Miles was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of her life.

Instead, it became the beginning of a medical journey that would change their family forever.

Shanine, who was 26 at the time, went into labor at 38 weeks and arrived at East Surrey Hospital in Surrey. Medical staff raised concerns about the baby’s heart rate and began monitoring him.

Shanine says she felt strongly that something was wrong and worried that her baby was struggling.

According to Shanine, concerns about Cobie’s heart rate continued during labor, but an emergency caesarean section was not immediately performed. She says approximately 30 minutes pᴀssed after a specialist obstetric review before doctors decided that an urgent C-section was necessary.

Cobie was born on July 18, 2022, weighing 7lb 9oz.

But instead of hearing her newborn cry, Shanine watched medical teams rush to help him.

Cobie required immediate resuscitation after being deprived of oxygen around the time of birth. Doctors later believed he may have experienced a placental abruption, a serious pregnancy complication that can reduce oxygen reaching a baby. 🏥💔

Shanine remembers the overwhelming fear of those first moments and repeatedly saying: “Don’t let my baby di…”

Cobie was transferred into intensive medical care and began a long hospital journey.

He spent his first 84 days in hospital before eventually going home. His medical challenges continued, however, and he was later readmitted, remaining in hospital until he was around 10 months old.

While many babies spend their first year learning to sit, crawl and explore, Cobie’s infancy was dominated by medical care, hospital stays and constant monitoring.

The lack of oxygen around his birth caused severe neurological damage.

Today, Cobie is 3 years old and lives with cerebral palsy.

He cannot walk or talk, cannot independently hold his head, struggles with swallowing and has experienced seizures. He also requires around-the-clock support. 🩵

For Shanine, watching her son face these challenges has been heartbreaking.

But her story is not simply about what Cobie cannot do.

It is about everything he continues to overcome.

Cobie has already endured more medical challenges in his first years than most people could imagine, yet his family continues to fight for his comfort, development and quality of life.

His mother describes the emotional difficulty of watching her child grow up surrounded by medical equipment and appointments rather than the carefree childhood she had imagined.

She also carries questions about whether different decisions during labor could have changed Cobie’s outcome.

The circumstances surrounding his birth have raised serious concerns for Shanine, who says she did not feel her worries were adequately heard at the time.

For now, however, her focus remains on her son.

Cobie is not simply a medical diagnosis.

He is a beloved little boy.
