💔 THEY HAD JUST MARRIED. THEIR LITTLE BOYS HAD JUST STARTED PRESCHOOL. THEIR FUTURE WAS ONLY BEGINNING—UNTIL ONE CRASH CHANGED EVERYTHING.

Giovanni Huerta and Kiah Begaye were both just 26 years old.

They were high school sweethearts who had grown up together, built a family together and, in April, finally became husband and wife.

Their sons, Dakota and Malakai, were only 4 and 2.

After a holiday weekend, the young family was making their way home from New Mexico. They never made it.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, all four family members were killed Monday in a head-on crash on State Route 260.

In a matter of moments, two young parents and their two little boys were gone.

For Giovanni’s father, Joel, the loss is almost impossible to put into words.

“They were my world. My son, my only son. Two generations just gone like that,” he told AZFamily.

Kiah’s mother also described a couple who had so much left to experience. They had plans, goals and adventures they wanted to share together. Their marriage was still new. Their children were still so young. There should have been years of birthdays, holidays, school milestones and family gatherings ahead.

Instead, their loved ones are preparing for four funerals.

Giovanni worked as a mechanic, while Kiah was beginning to build a Native American clothing business. Their families remembered them as devoted parents who loved spending time with their children and extended family.

The tragedy has also led to an arrest.

Authorities say the 21-year-old driver of the pickup involved in the collision was arrested. A family member told AZFamily that a trooper indicated the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. However, authorities have not publicly established whether impairment was a factor in the crash.

For the families, those unanswered questions are unlikely to make the grief any easier.

There will be no more watching Dakota and Malakai grow up. No more celebrations with Giovanni and Kiah. No more ordinary family moments that once seemed guaranteed.

Joel’s words capture the devastating scale of what was lost: “Two generations just gone like that.”

Four people who belonged at the center of their families are suddenly missing.

And the people who loved them must now learn how to face every future holiday, birthday and gathering with empty places where four loved ones should have been.
