💔 She Was Fighting Stage IV Cancer While Carrying Her Baby — Then Came the News Her Family Prayed For
At 32 years old, Kiersten Rapplean found herself facing two battles at once: a pregnancy she had hoped would bring joy and a devastating cancer diagnosis that threatened her future.
At 29 weeks pregnant, Kiersten was diagnosed with Stage IV inflammatory breast cancer, an aggressive and rare form of the disease. The diagnosis came at a moment when her focus should have been preparing to welcome her baby. Instead, she was suddenly forced to confront the possibility of losing her own life while protecting the tiny life growing inside her.
There was no time to simply wait.
Kiersten began chemotherapy while still pregnant, enduring treatment as she carried her unborn son. Every decision had to balance her cancer treatment with the safety of her baby. Through the fear and uncertainty, she continued moving forward, holding onto the hope that she would one day meet her child.
That moment came at 36 weeks and one day, just one day after Kiersten’s birthday.
Her son, Travis, was born weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces. 👶❤️ His arrival brought enormous relief, but his journey was not over. Travis spent 17 days in the neonatal intensive care unit before he was finally healthy enough to go home.
For Kiersten, becoming a mother did not mean her fight was finished. Her cancer treatment continued with HER2-targeted therapy, additional chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and immunotherapy.
The road was exhausting, frightening and filled with moments when the future was anything but certain. Yet Kiersten kept going.
Then, in July 2026, her family received the news they had been praying for: there was no active disease. 🙏🥹❤️
After everything she had endured, the words carried a weight far beyond a medical update. They represented another chance—a chance to watch Travis grow, to make memories with her family and to continue building the future cancer had threatened to take away.
Kiersten’s story is not simply about surviving a frightening diagnosis. It is about the extraordinary determination of a mother who continued fighting while carrying the person she loved most.
She faced chemotherapy while pregnant. She endured surgery and months of treatment. She welcomed her son and waited through his NICU stay. And through every uncertain chapter, she held onto the same reason to keep moving forward.
For Travis. For her family. For the future she refused to surrender. ❤️🩹👩👦✨
Her journey is a powerful reminder that hope can survive even in the darkest moments—and sometimes, the smallest heartbeat can become the greatest reason to keep fighting.
