One year has pᴀssed since four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote property in South Australia — and his parents are still waiting for the answer they have wanted every day since.

As the anniversary of his disappearance arrived, Gus’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, made their first direct public video appeal, asking anyone who may know something about what happened to their little boy to come forward.

For a family that has spent an entire year living without answers, their message was painfully simple:

They want Gus home.

A YEAR WITHOUT ANSWERS

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, playing outside his family’s home at Oak Park Station, a large sheep property near Yunta in South Australia’s outback.

His grandmother went to call him inside roughly 30 minutes after he was last seen, but Gus was gone.

Despite an extensive search operation involving police, emergency services, Australian Defence Force personnel, volunteers and specialists, investigators have not located him.

South Australia Police said the investigation involved 11 ground searches over 30 days, alongside extensive aerial operations.

HIS PARENTS SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLIC

In their emotional video message, Jess described Gus as a “beautiful, sweet and unique little boy” who loved music, stories and playing in the natural world.

She said the family has now endured an entire year without knowing what happened to him.

Gus should have celebrated his fifth birthday during that time. His younger brother also celebrated his first birthday without him.

His father, Josh, said the family desperately wants Gus to return home and believes someone knows what happened to him.

The parents asked anyone with even a small piece of information to speak with investigators.

POLICE OFFER $1 MILLION REWARD

Authorities have now introduced a major new incentive for information.

South Australia Police announced a reward of up to $1 million AUD for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his rem#ins.

Police said the response was immediate.

Within roughly 24 hours of the announcement, Crime Stoppers received 34 calls and two emails relating to the case. Investigators said all of the information was being ᴀssessed and would be followed up where appropriate.

POLICE SAY THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT THEORY

Detectives have previously said they do not believe Gus simply wandered away from the property.

They have also said there is currently no evidence supporting an abduction by an unknown person.

Instead, investigators continue to believe that someone known to Gus may have been involved in his disappearance.

Police have previously confirmed that one of Gus’s grandparents remains a suspect. However, authorities have not publicly identified that person beyond that description or provided further details about the evidence.

Being identified as a suspect does not establish guilt, and no conviction has been reached in relation to Gus’s disappearance.

NEW “ANOMALIES” FOUND IN AERIAL IMAGERY

Another potentially important development emerged as the anniversary approached.

Task Force Horizon detectives conducted a detailed manual examination of aerial imagery collected during the investigation, in addition to earlier computer-ᴀssisted analysis.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had identified several “anomalies” that could potentially warrant further investigation.

Police have not said that these anomalies represent Gus or provide a confirmed location. They are being ᴀssessed as part of the continuing investigation.

POLICE WARN AGAINST SPECULATION

With renewed public attention has come renewed speculation online.

But investigators have specifically asked the public to provide information rather than theories or conspiracy claims.

Detective Superintendent Fielke said investigators have to spend valuable time ᴀssessing information submitted to them, making reliable tips especially important.

The focus, police say, remains on finding information that can genuinely move the investigation forward.

A FAMILY STILL WAITING

For Josh and Jess, the past year has been filled with uncertainty.

There has been no confirmed sighting of Gus since the day he disappeared. No answer has explained what happened to him. And despite the enormous search effort, his whereabouts remain unknown.

But his parents have not stopped asking for help.

Their message to anyone who may know something is clear:

Please come forward. Even the smallest detail could matter.

One year later, the search for Gus Lamont remains active.
