đ Illinois Marketplace Meeting Turns á´ á´á´á´ ly in Shocking Case of Violence and Arson
A routine online marketplace transaction in suburban Illinois has escalated into a tragic and disturbing criminal case, leaving a young pregnant mother á´ á´á´á´ , her unborn child lost, and a teenage suspect now hospitalized in critical condition following an incident in custody.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas, who faces multiple charges including first-degree murder, homicide of an unborn child, arson, robbery, and animal cruelty.
The victim, 30-year-old Eliza Morales, was five months pregnant at the time of her death. She had been at home in Downers Grove, Illinois, when the suspect allegedly arrived under the pretense of completing a Facebook Marketplace transaction involving a pickup truck listed by her husband.
Investigators say the meeting initially appeared routine. Revuckas had contacted the family about purchasing the vehicle and arranged to inspect it at their residence. Surveillance evidence reportedly shows interactions between the parties that began normally, including á´ssistance provided by Morales to help with switching license plates on the vehicle.
However, according to prosecutors, the situation escalated rapidly after the suspect expressed frustration regarding the condition of the truck. Authorities allege that he then made a sudden decision that led to a violent attack inside the home.
Police say Revuckas used a screwdriver as a weapon during the á´ssault, attacking Morales inside the apartment. During the struggle, Morales reportedly informed him that she was pregnant in an attempt to stop the violence. Investigators say the attack continued despite this.
Her two-year-old child was also present in the home during the incident, though authorities have not released further details regarding the childâs exact location during the attack.
Officials also allege that the suspect stabbed the family dog when it attempted to intervene.
After the á´ssault, investigators believe Revuckas set fire inside the apartment, which prosecutors say was likely intended to destroy evidence. Emergency responders arrived shortly after smoke was reported, but Morales was pronounced á´ á´á´á´ at the scene.
Her unborn child did not survive.
Revuckas was arrested shortly after the incident and later appeared in court, where prosecutors argued he posed a significant danger to the public. A judge agreed, denying pretrial release.
Less than 24 hours after the court hearing, authorities say Revuckas was found with self-inflicted injuries inside his cell at the DuPage County Correctional Center. He was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the nature of the initial meeting and the severity of the allegations, raising concerns about safety during online marketplace transactions and the unpredictability of violent crime.
As the investigation continues, prosecutors say they are committed to pursuing full accountability for the devastating loss of life and the circumstances surrounding the case. đ
