Two Best Friends Remembered After Tragic Shooting in New York

Two close friends from New York are being remembered by their families after an accidental shooting claimed one teenager’s life and left the other with fatal injuries before he later died.
According to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office and the Syracuse Police Department, 16-year-old Damarion Jones and 13-year-old Jonah Tanner were found with gunsH๏τ wounds inside a home in Syracuse on June 24.
Investigators said the evidence indicates Damarion accidentally sH๏τ Jonah inside the residence. According to William Fitzpatrick, Damarion later fatally sH๏τ himself after becoming overwhelmed with guilt.

Damarion died at the scene. Jonah was transported to a hospital, where his family later said he was declared brain ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. They also shared that they planned to donate his organs before laying him to rest.
Separate GoFundMe campaigns have been created to support both families during this difficult time.
Jonah’s family described the two boys as inseparable friends who shared nearly every moment together and supported one another through everything. They said the families are planning to have the boys laid to rest together in recognition of their close friendship.
During a community vigil, Jonah’s mother remembered her son as someone who loved football, fashion, and brought energy and personality wherever he went.
In a separate tribute, Damarion’s mother described her son as a loving and compᴀssionate teenager who was always willing to help others and whose kindness touched everyone he met.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. If you keep firearms in the home, experts recommend storing them unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition to help reduce the risk of accidental shootings involving children and teenagers.
